U.S. official says Kim Jong Un could be impeached over nuclear launch

The president of the United States is preparing to impeach North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, a U.N. diplomat said Friday, according to a report.

The U.K.-based think tank Chatham House on Friday cited an unnamed U.P. diplomat who was speaking to a delegation from North Korea, who said the leader of North Korea could be charged with crimes over the launch of a ballistic missile last week that flew over Japan.

The United States, South Korea, Japan and China are all parties to the U.C.I.A. Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide and are expected to issue a statement later Friday.

U.S.-based Chatham says the ICG was formed to “combat the threat of genocide, to ensure that the ICGs are conducted in accordance with the law, and to prevent it in the future.”
